Mission Statement

I am Joey Kyle. I am running for the office of Sheriff of Christian County, Missouri. Christian County is the fastest growing county in the State of Missouri. That makes it an exciting place to live and work. I am running for sheriff because I believe that our sheriff’s department needs to keep pace with the tremendous growth of our county.

I have a vision about what law enforcement for Christian County should be, but I would like to introduce myself first. I have twenty-two years of law enforcement experience; fifteen of which were spent in Springfield. My formal education consists of an Associate’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, and I have completed my class requirements for a Master’s degree as well.

I have been professionally trained in police education and have conducted adult training for over ten years while serving at the Springfield Police Department.
While in Springfield, I was professionally trained in Community Oriented Policing.

In Community Oriented Policing, officers become a part of the community and the people get to know their officer. Each community’s officer will be responsible for all non-emergency issues in that area. I plan to introduce each officer to their assigned community personally. It is my goal that these deputies will interact closely with the citizens of each community and therefore be more proactive in preventing and detecting crime. Proactive patrols will be more likely to find the burglars, the stolen goods, and the drug houses.

In addition to building a department where my deputies will listen actively and respond to the needs of the community, you as a citizen of Christian County will always be welcome to give me a call.

Our youth are our future. As your Sheriff I will reinstitute the DARE (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) program. Educating our children in how to resist drugs and alcohol is a small part of the program. DARE allows our deputies to build relationships with the young people of our county that help prevent a host of juvenile crime. I also maintain that if one young person is prevented from a life of drug addiction and crime the program is worthwhile.

I also plan to develop the criminal investigation capability of the Sheriff’s department by utilizing my personal experience as a Criminal Investigator. Most importantly I understand what is required to build the criminal investigation division of the department. As a citizen when you are the victim of criminal activity you feel violated. Having a sheriff’s department that you feel is not responsive to your needs and fails to solve the crime does not help. Having an outstanding criminal investigation division can also be an effective deterrent to crime. Criminals like to work where they won’t get caught. I want to make Christian County a place where the criminals don’t want to be.

I believe that as Sheriff I have a duty to provide leadership to the department. I learned leadership first hand as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. I have served two deployments in the Iraq war. I know how to lead people in stressful and hostile situations. I have learned that to be a good leader I need to take care of the people I am responsible for. By investing in and developing my deputies I will ultimately be able to do a better job of serving the people of Christian County. I plan to make the Christian County Sheriff’s department a great place to work so my deputies can help me do a good job for you.
